Mowing Notice
Grass, twigs and other yard debris should NOT be put onto the City streets. Eventually these items plug the storm sewers and create problems. The City of Sigourney defines this as a nuisance under section 3-2-1 in the 2011 Municipal Codebook or Ordinances.
3-2-2 Nuisances Prohibited
The creation or maintenance of a nuisance is prohibited, and a nuisance, public or private, may be abated in the manner provided in this Chapter. Dense growth of all weeds, grasses, vines, brush or other vegetation in the City so as to constitute a health, safety or fire hazard are declared to be a nuisance per State Code 657.2(11) and City Code 3-2-1(k). Developed and undeveloped lots; weeds removal; grass cutting: each owner and each person in possession or control of any developed or undeveloped lot or land area shall be responsible to keep said lot or land area, along with the parking adjacent thereto, alleys, public ways or land areas up to the centerline of said ways free of any weeds and to keep grasses on said land mowed so that said grass is less than nine inches (9”) in height per City Code 3-2-1(k). The City may perform the required action to abate, keeping an accurate account of the expense incurred, if a property owner or person in possession of lands in the city fails to destroy the weeds, vines or brush as set out above. The itemized expense account shall be files with the City Clerk, who pay such expenses on behalf of the municipality.
Hourly Rates are as Follows:
Private Contract: Cost + 25%
City: One Operator/Machine - $50.00 Minimum Charge
Each Additional Worker - $20.00
Minimum Increments Thereafter – ½ hour
